Most Common Causes of Skin Bumps

 Acrochordons

Benign, flesh-colored growths that often appear in areas of friction (neck, armpits). They are more common after the age of 40 and in diabetic or obese people.

 Cyst

One of the most common causes. Usually appears on the face or back. Smooth and mobile, oval in shape with well-defined edges. Often has a central pore. May become painful and red if inflamed.

 Verrue

They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 100 different types, most commonly appearing on the hands, feet, or genitals. They are contagious and can be transmitted by contact.

 Dermatofibrome

Small, hard, reddish growths, most often located on the legs. They are benign, but when squeezed, they often sink inwards, forming a small hollow. In rare cases, they can be mistaken for connective tissue sarcoma.

 Lipoma

A benign fat mass develops between the skin and the muscle. It is usually soft, about 5 cm, but can grow. It sometimes causes discomfort if it compresses the nerves.

 Enlarged lymph nodes

Lymph nodes are part of the immune system and can enlarge in the event of infections such as tonsillitis, measles, ear infections, dental abscesses, mononucleosis, skin infections, and HIV.

They usually regress after healing, but if they remain hard and still, it could be a sign of lymphoma.
