As I walked out, I saw him — sitting on the curb with his dog, a big German shepherd curled up beside him. He looked exhausted… not just tired, but worn down by life.

He quietly said, “I’m a veteran… we haven’t eaten since yesterday. I’m not asking for money… just food.”

I hesitated for a second… then went back inside.

I bought a hot meal, water, and a big bag of dog food. When I handed it to him, he looked at me like I’d given him the world. He kept thanking me, and I just told him to take care of his dog.

I didn’t think much of it after that. Just went home to my kids like any other night.
