{"id":6008,"date":"2026-04-04T22:01:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T22:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsnowtrendi.xyz\/?p=6008"},"modified":"2026-04-04T22:01:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T22:01:21","slug":"florida-moms-call-cops-on-sons-after-50k-school-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsnowtrendi.xyz\/?p=6008","title":{"rendered":"Florida moms call cops on sons after $50K school damage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moms-turned-them-in\">\u2018Moms turned them in\u2019<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the images were posted online, tips quickly poured in \u2013 but it was the boys\u2019 own mothers who provided the crucial leads, recognizing their children and making the difficult decision to alert authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir moms turned them in,\u201d Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office announced in a Sept. 15 Facebook post that included mugshots of 12-year-old Felix Cohen Romero and 13-year-old Bentley Ryan Wehrly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter the video posted, we received lots of emails identifying them (thank you all!), as well as contacts from each of the defendants\u2019 mothers. The boys confessed to the incident, which caused at least $50,000 in damage to the media center. They broke into the school during the daytime hours, then returned later in the evening to look at the damage and cause more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-criminal-charges\">Criminal charges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each boy now faces a slate of criminal charges, including two counts of burglary, two counts of trespassing on school grounds, criminal mischief and theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have not yet confirmed how the case will proceed through the juvenile justice system, but the seriousness of the damage means both could be facing significant legal consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moms-praised\">Moms praised<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The shocking case has sparked widespread reaction online, particularly because the boys\u2019 own mothers were the ones who held them accountable. Many praised the women for making what must have been an incredibly difficult choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGreat job moms!!! I\u2019m sure that was incredibly hard, but it was the right thing to do. Helping them learn about consequences is the hardest part of being a parent,\u201d one person wrote in the comment section of the Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A second wrote, \u201cThank you moms for seeing your child needs to see the world doesn\u2019t revolve around them and there [are] consequences to their actions! I know it was probably hard\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another added: \u201cSo young to be having a record,\u201d another said. \u201cGood job on the moms for turning them in though!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-clean-up-duty\">Clean-up duty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Others went further, suggesting the pre-teens should be required to clean up the damage themselves as part of their punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAssign them the library repair every day to clean up their mess from putting books back on the shelves to cleaning every nook and corner,\u201d suggested one netizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey should have to go clean it up during school hours so everyone can see,\u201d another suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For the boys, the vandalism has brought not only criminal charges but also public scrutiny.
