The first thing I noticed when we came home was the chair. Our neighbors Tracy and Kevin had our spare key because we trusted them to collect the mail and keep an eye on things, just as they had done before. The more we learned, the clearer it became that the backyard incident was only one piece of something much larger. Kevin had been involved in an emotional affair, had already looked at apartments while supposedly attending marriage counseling, and had planned his departure before Tracy understood their marriage was ending. She finally consulted a family-law attorney, who advised her to preserve texts, document who entered the house and understand her rights as the spouse still occupying jointly owned property. When the HOA requested a formal meeting, we brought our timeline, locksmith receipts and written account.
