At first I ignored it. \u201cProbably just a crumb,\u201d I told myself, half-dreaming of lunch. But then another. And another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My brain switched into detective mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could it be chocolate? Dirt from my socks? (Don\u2019t judge \u2014 laundry day is a concept, not a schedule.) I leaned in closer, squinting like I do when trying to read restaurant menus in dim lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then it hit me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This wasn\u2019t food.<br>This wasn\u2019t dust.<br>This was\u2026 <strong>insect poop.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like tiny, pepper-like pellets of doom, scattered across the battleground of what was supposed to be <em>my sanctuary of sleep.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My heart raced. Did I bring home uninvited guests? Were there bugs partying under my sheets right now?
